The NFC.SS1 cell line comprises primary fibroblasts isolated from 100% Iberian (Ibérico) pigs sourced in Valladolid, Spain. This heritage breed is globally recognised for its distinctive lipid metabolism and tissue composition, making it a valuable model for cultivated meat, extracellular matrix (ECM) production, and metabolic research. Tissue was obtained via minimally invasive 3 mm dermal punch biopsy from neonatal animals (gluteal region), enabling isolation of high‑viability fibroblast populations while preserving tissue integrity and supporting strong proliferative capacity.
Cells are adherent and exhibit characteristic fibroblast morphology with consistent proliferation across extended passaging. Cultures have been maintained beyond 40 passages with sustained growth and no observable senescence under standard conditions, suggesting extended lifespan potential compared to typical primary fibroblast lines. These cells have been successfully used to generate structured cultivated pork prototypes, including pork loin formats produced on edible scaffolds, demonstrating capacity for scaffold integration, matrix deposition, and formation of cohesive three‑dimensional constructs.
Each cryopreserved vial contains approximately 1 × 10⁶ viable cells with high post‑thaw recovery and attachment efficiency. All lots test negative for mycoplasma and are screened for common adventitious agents. Full traceability is maintained from source tissue through cell banking and production. A comprehensive documentation package (certificate of analysis, tech transfer protocol) is included, plus technical support for process optimisation, scale‑up, and co‑culture system development.
