Gibco™ DMEM, high glucose, GlutaMAX™ Supplement, pyruvate is a widely used basal medium designed to support the growth of a broad range of mammalian cells. The formulation is suitable for primary fibroblasts, neurons, glial cells, HUVECs, and smooth muscle cells, as well as established cell lines including HeLa, 293, Cos-7, and PC-12. This formulation contains high glucose, sodium pyruvate, GlutaMAX™ Supplement, and phenol red, providing a commonly used medium for mammalian cell culture applications.
DMEM contains four times the concentration of amino acids and vitamins found in the original Eagle's Minimal Essential Medium. The addition of GlutaMAX™ Supplement provides an easy-to-use alternative to conventional L-glutamine and helps minimize toxic ammonia build-up while improving cell viability and growth. The medium contains no proteins, lipids, or growth factors and therefore requires supplementation, commonly with Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
Gibco™ DMEM, high glucose, GlutaMAX™ Supplement, pyruvate uses a sodium bicarbonate buffer system and requires a 5–10% CO₂ environment to maintain physiological pH. The liquid medium is sterile-filtered and supplied in a bottle format for use in mammalian cell culture. This formulation is provided without HEPES and is stored at 2°C to 8°C with protection from light.
This DMEM formulation is suitable for mammalian cell culture applications involving a range of primary cells and established cell lines. Its high glucose formulation, GlutaMAX™ Supplement, and sodium pyruvate make it suitable for cell culture workflows where these components are required for supporting mammalian cell growth and viability.
