Most products require no additional agreements. Cell lines and certain biological materials require a Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) on first purchase from each supplier. Gibco™ Fetal Bovine Serum, Value is a fetal bovine serum designed to provide an excellent value for basic cell culture, specialty research, and specific assays. It is intended for general cell culture with common cell lines and provides attachment factors, nutrients, and hormones that support mammalian cell culture. FBS also contains embryonic growth-promoting factors, including hormones, carrier proteins, and macromolecular proteins, along with low levels of antibodies and other growth-inhibiting components.
The serum is processed in FDA-registered facilities that are ISO 13485-certified and is triple-filtered at 0.1 μm. Gibco FBS is quality tested, with the Value category tested through up to 30 quality tests including endotoxin and performance testing, as well as 9 CFR virus testing where applicable. The product has low endotoxin and hemoglobin levels, while USDA safety testing is performed for Australian origins.
Gibco™ Fetal Bovine Serum, Value is supplied as a liquid serum in a bottle format and is intended for incorporation into cell culture media. Thermo Fisher recommends adding FBS to culture medium at a concentration of 2–10%, with 10% commonly used for most basal media, although some applications may require higher supplementation depending on the specific application and cell line. The serum should be stored at temperatures below −10°C.
This fetal bovine serum is suitable for basic cell culture with common cell lines, specialty research, and specific assays where a Value-category FBS is appropriate. Its consistent quality, filtration, and broad use in mammalian cell culture make it suitable for routine serum supplementation in research workflows.
