Defined Bioscience’s FGF2 (Tuna) is a recombinant, animal-origin-free fibroblast growth factor 2 derived from Thunnus albacares (yellowfin tuna). It supports cell proliferation, differentiation, and maintenance in serum-free and chemically defined media, particularly for marine and aquatic cell lines used in cultivated-seafood research. As a native fish homolog, it enhances compatibility with piscine cells while maintaining cross-species functionality across mammalian and avian models.

Produced recombinantly in E. coli, FGF2 (Tuna) is supplied carrier-free and purified to greater than 95 % by SDS-PAGE, ensuring consistent purity and performance. The protein contains an N-terminal hexahistidine tag and protease cleavage site and is formulated in phosphate buffer at 1 mg/mL. Biological activity testing demonstrates an EC₅₀ below 2 ng/mL in NIH-3T3 proliferation assays, confirming high potency at low concentrations.

The recombinant production process is fully animal-component-free and supports reproducible performance across long-term culture conditions. FGF2 (Tuna) can be incorporated directly into basal or serum-free media formulations to improve cell viability and proliferation in fish cell lines, aiding optimisation of cultivated-seafood workflows from R&D through to pilot-scale studies.
