HiMedia Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM), High Glucose is a widely used basal medium designed to support the growth of a variety of mammalian cells. This formulation is a modification of Basal Medium Eagle (BME) containing four-fold concentrations of amino acids and vitamins, with additional glycine, serine, and ferric nitrate, providing a nutrient-rich environment suitable for high-density cell culture.
This specific formulation (Cat. No. AL007A) contains 4.5 g/L glucose (high glucose), L-glutamine, sodium pyruvate, and phenol red. The sodium bicarbonate buffer system requires a 5–10% CO₂ environment to maintain physiological pH. The high glucose concentration supports cells with high metabolic demands, including primary cultures of mouse and chicken cells, as well as various normal and transformed cell lines.
Quality control testing ensures consistent performance: appearance is a red-colored clear solution, pH ranges from 7.00 to 7.60, osmolality is 320–360 mOsm/kg, and endotoxin content is ≤1 EU/mL. The medium is sterile-filtered and tested for bacterial and fungal growth with no growth observed after 14 days of incubation per USP specifications.
Supplied as a 1X ready-to-use liquid, this medium should be stored at 2–8°C away from bright light. Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture. Use before the expiry date indicated on the product label. Users are advised to review literature for recommendations regarding medium supplementation specific to different cell lines.
