Smart MCs Hyaluronic Acid Methacryloyl (HAMA) is a chemically defined, animal-origin-free (ACF) hydrogel engineered to mimic key aspects of the native extracellular matrix (ECM). It addresses the challenge of creating physiologically relevant 3D environments for cultivated muscle and fat cells, supporting high cell viability and structural integrity during both expansion and maturation phases.
The 150K molecular weight variant is optimised for superior handling and tunable viscoelastic properties. It is supplied as a kit including the LAP photoinitiator, enabling rapid, visible-light-mediated cross-linking. This allows precise control over scaffold stiffness and porosity—critical parameters for directing stem cell differentiation and achieving target texture and structure in cultivated meat applications.
LAP photoinitiator is supplied separately in light-protective bottles. For standard units, the polymer-to-LAP ratio is 0.5 g HAMA per bottle with 0.025 g LAP, while bulk formats are supplied with multiple LAP bottles at standard per-bottle quantities rather than a single bulk container.
Validated for use with bovine, porcine, and avian cell lines, this research-grade material is compatible with 3D bioprinting and modular tissue engineering workflows. Its methacrylated backbone provides a versatile platform for further functionalisation, including the incorporation of cell-adhesion peptides (e.g. RGD), enabling the development of species-specific growth and differentiation protocols.
Available in 0.5 g and 5 g kit formats, Smart MCs HAMA is a commercial-ready solution for scaling from early R&D to pilot-scale scaffold development. Its animal-component-free composition supports alignment with ethical, regulatory, and food-safe production standards.
