Gibco™ Ham's F-10 Nutrient Mix was originally developed for the serum-free growth of Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells and has since become a widely used basal medium for a variety of mammalian cell culture applications. In addition to supporting CHO cell growth, it has been successfully used with other cell types, including COS-7 cells, primary rat astrocytes, and rat prostate epithelial cells.
Compared to many basal media, Ham's F-10 contains a broader range of nutrients and trace components, including zinc, hypoxanthine, and thymidine. These additional components help support cellular growth and maintenance in specialized culture systems and have contributed to the development of improved formulations such as Ham's F-12 Nutrient Mixture.
This specific formulation (Cat. No. 31550023) contains L-glutamine and phenol red and does not contain HEPES. The medium contains no proteins, lipids, hormones, growth factors, or serum and is typically supplemented according to the requirements of the cultured cell type.
