Multus Proliferum® P

Proliferum P is an animal component-free serum replacement designed for the culture of porcine adipose-derived stem cells. It addresses the limitations of foetal bovine serum by providing a defined and scalable alternative suited to cultivated meat development. The product is supplied as a panel of three distinct formulations, each offering a slightly different composition to support comparative optimisation. This enables producers to identify the formulation that best supports proliferation and differentiation within their specific cell lines and culture systems.

The formulations were evaluated across immortalised and spontaneously immortalised porcine adipocyte-derived stem cell models (piADSCs and psiADSCs). Across five passages, cells grown with Proliferum P exhibited doubling times, morphology, and viability comparable to cultures supplemented with 10 per cent FBS. Differentiation assays confirmed normal adipogenic behaviour, and live–dead staining demonstrated robust survival in both adherent and microcarrier-based workflows. These data show that all three variants provide reliable performance across static and suspension culture formats.

Proliferum P is supplied sterile and frozen and should be stored at −20 °C with minimal light exposure. Thawing at room temperature is recommended to preserve stability. Following thaw, the product is diluted into basal medium such as DMEM/F12 to a working concentration of 1–2×, with titration advised to determine the optimal ratio for each cell system. The complete medium should be used within one to two weeks and exchanged every forty-eight hours. When transitioning from serum-containing systems, the formulations support either direct switching or a gradual adaptation over three passages.

Multus recommends evaluating all three formulations during initial optimisation, as cell-type-specific responses may influence performance under different conditions.
