CytoBoost is a range of chemically defined, xeno-free media additives designed to mimic the macromolecular crowding of the native in vivo cellular environment. By introducing inert, food-safe macromolecules into standard culture media, CytoBoost creates volume-exclusion effects that increase the effective concentration and thermodynamic activity of growth factors and other media components. This mechanism significantly enhances cell proliferation, recovery, and phenotype maintenance without the need for additional exogenous proteins.

The product range includes targeted formulations optimised for specific bioprocess challenges, allowing producers to tailor their media strategy. CytoBoost Perform serves as a versatile all-rounder for general culture enhancement, while CytoBoost Maximise is specifically engineered to accelerate proliferation rates in both 2D and 3D systems. For downstream tissue engineering, CytoBoost Develop promotes robust extracellular matrix (ECM) formation, and CytoBoost Revive is designed to improve cell viability and recovery following cryopreservation and thawing cycles.

By stabilising growth factors and improving receptor-ligand kinetics, CytoBoost allows researchers to reduce the concentration of expensive recombinant proteins in serum-free media by up to 75% while maintaining optimal cell performance. It is compatible with a wide range of cell types, including mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), iPSCs, myoblasts, and fibroblasts. Supplied as a sterile liquid concentrate, it is added directly to culture media at 1–8% (v/v) and is suitable for research and further manufacturing applications.
