Energy Efficiency in Bioreactor Scale-Up Processes
Scaling up bioreactors for cultivated meat production - from small (1–5 L) to large (1,000+ L) systems - brings energy challenges. Larger volumes require more power for mixing, oxygen transfer,...

Defined Bioscience’s HiDef® B8 Stem Cell Growth Medium is a complete, chemically defined formulation designed for feeder-free maintenance and expansion of human pluripotent stem cells. It provides a reliable foundation for cultivated-meat research by supporting long-term proliferation of mammalian stem and progenitor cells under serum-free conditions. The medium maintains cells in an undifferentiated state while reducing labour demands through a flexible feeding schedule that enables weekend-free culture.
HiDef B8 contains insulin, ascorbic acid-2-phosphate, transferrin, sodium selenite, TGFB3, NRG1, and a thermostable variant of FGF2. This combination eliminates the need for additional supplementation while maintaining genomic stability and morphology for over fifty passages. The formulation has been validated across multiple human iPSC lines and is compatible with a wide range of matrices including Matrigel®, Geltrex™, and vitronectin substrates.
Available as a complete medium kit or as a supplement-only format for use with DMEM/F12 basal media, HiDef B8 offers full flexibility for process development. Once prepared aseptically, the complete medium can be stored at 2–8 °C for two weeks and supports consistent growth without karyotypic drift.
For research and development use only. Not for human or diagnostic applications.
