Sigma-Aldrich Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO), Hybri-Max™ grade, is a sterile-filtered cryoprotectant with ≥99.7% purity. This polar aprotic solvent is widely used in cell culture for the cryopreservation of cells, tissues, and organs, as well as in molecular biology applications such as PCR.
This formulation (Cat. No. D2650) is specially tested for hybridoma applications and evaluated for suitability in cell freezing. It is sterile-filtered through a 0.2 μm membrane and tested for endotoxin and water content (≤0.1%), ensuring consistent performance in sensitive cell culture systems. The product is supplied in amber glass bottles to protect from light.
As a cryoprotectant, DMSO protects cells from mechanical damage caused by ice crystal formation during freezing. It is commonly used in cell freezing media for primary cells, secondary cultures, recombinant cell lines, aneuploid and hybridoma cell lines, embryonic stem cells (ESCs), and hematopoietic stem cells, often in combination with serum or serum albumin.
D2650 is a liquid at room temperature but may solidify if stored in cool conditions. If solidified, warm to room temperature to re-liquefy; product quality is not affected. Store at room temperature in a dry environment. For research use or further manufacturing. Not for diagnostic use or direct administration into humans or animals.
