XCeLL Factor™ Transferrin is a recombinant human transferrin supplied in lyophilised form for use in serum-free and chemically defined media. It delivers bioavailable iron to cultured cells, supporting metabolic activity and sustained proliferation in mammalian and emerging cultivated meat systems. By providing a controlled and serum-independent route for iron transport, it helps maintain consistent cell performance in workflows where serum components must be removed for regulatory or process reasons.
The protein is produced through recombinant expression in E. coli and purified to high homogeneity, providing a reliable alternative to plasma-derived transferrin. Its defined composition reduces batch variability and removes animal-origin risks, which is important for researchers developing media formulations intended for scale-up or future regulatory submission. The molecular structure and iron-binding functionality are preserved during manufacturing, ensuring compatibility with a broad range of cell types used in bioprocessing and cellular agriculture.
Each batch is supplied as a lyophilised powder that reconstitutes efficiently in dilute acid, including 10 mM HCl. The format supports long-term storage at −20°C and simplified transport without requiring liquid cold chain conditions. Once dissolved, the solution can be incorporated directly into basal media, supplement blends, or feed strategies used in high-density cell culture.
