The Kbiotech CO₂ Fermentation & Bioplastics Reactor is a specialised bioprocessing platform designed for carbon utilisation, anaerobic digestion, and the production of bio-based materials. As the cultivated meat industry seeks to improve sustainability, this system enables the conversion of CO₂ and syngas into valuable inputs, such as protein-rich microbial biomass or biodegradable scaffolds (PHA/PHB).
Designed for safety in gas-rich environments, the platform features ATEX and IECEx certified explosion-proof construction, supporting operations with methane, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide. Available from 1 L to 20,000 L, the reactor handles high-pressure gas dissolution up to 10 bar. This is essential for the cultivation of autotrophic acetogens and methanogens, which can serve as sustainable, non-animal nutrient sources or feedstock for growth media.
The system utilizes high-torque agitation and specialised gas-inducing impellers to maximise gas-liquid mass transfer, achieving KLa values exceeding 200 h⁻¹. Managed by SmartBioFlex™ SCADA software, it provides real-time analysis of off-gases (CH₄, CO₂, H₂) via the KG-FERM™ module. This level of precision allows researchers to monitor metabolic efficiency and carbon fixation rates in real-time, ensuring optimal yield for sustainable chemical and protein production.
To prevent fouling in high-viscosity or high-solids environments, the vessel features electropolished internal surfaces and anti-biofilm treatments. The integrated gas-mixing skid supports complex syngas blends, while inline biomass sensors (KB-Incyte-VBC™) provide continuous monitoring of cell density without the risk of contamination associated with manual sampling.
Suitable for carbon capture and utilisation (CCU), waste valorisation, and the production of bio-based scaffolds and proteins. The Kbiotech CO₂ Fermentation Reactor provides the industrial infrastructure needed to de-carbonise the cultivated meat supply chain.
